I found that it's very interesting to discover the role
of women in local fashion-based traditional mass media therefore I decide to
choose this topic. In our country, we can associate Batik as our local fashion
deal, and I curious on how women really represent the idea of Batik. Is it the
floral design of the Batik represented women or is it the traditional wear represent
the idea of women’ beauty? These questions start to pop up in my mind. Looking back
at the fashion advertising or runaway showcase, I automatically feel that it’s
normal to have female models wearing dappled patterns clothes or sumptuous
fashion. This stereotype minded was planted at a very beginning when we exposed
ourselves to media world. Advertising seems to be targeted female models even
though in the pass decades, women associated with the image of soft, family and
servant.

When we search for ‘Malaysia traditional’ on Google, we
tend to get pictures of women dressing traditional wear no matter in
advertising or performance. Therefore, is it the role of women important enough
to give a big impact on the traditional wear in our country? Let’s think of
when if women no longer wear traditional wear instead of men wear it, is it the
traditional wear like Sari or Cheongsam still can be brought out its beauty and
identity to our country?
